Futuremakers Present Maker Workshops for Children Ages 6 to 11

Futuremakers Offer Afterschool Maker Workshops for Children Ages Six to Eleven at Baltimore’s Digital Harbor Foundation Tech Center’s Nanolab.

FutureMakers runs hands-on tool and material, electronics and technology programs at the DHF Tech Center: from 3pm to 6pm on Tuesdays for kids ages 6 to 8 year olds (1st and 2nd graders) and on Thursdays for kids ages 8 to 11 year olds (3rd to 5th grade). The programs are accepting registrations now and will run through December 19th.

“Young makers with big ideas crave opportunities to build and experiment – but rarely get to make “stuff” in school-time settings that satisfies their curiosity” said Matt Barinholtz, Lead Tinker at FutureMakers. “At our programs in the Tech Center this fall, elementary-aged students will experience the whole range of “Maker 101” skills - drawing plans, woodworking, sewing and printing, plastic and foam fabrication, take-aparts and circuit bending, elementary electronics, basic programming and modeling, digital fabrication and even physical computing. We’re confident parents will be impressed by each wiggling, rolling, flying, functional and fantastic thing their child bring home - and may want to learn how to make it themselves!”

Upcoming classes include:

Breaking Bricks: Lego Hacks and Mods
November 12 – 21 two 3-hour sessions, $60
Invent your own plastic bricks! Cut, drill and adhere wood, plastic, foam and flexible materials to create entirely new ways of building with Lego!

Look, Listen & Touch: Intro to Programming & Physical Computing
December 2 – 19
three 3-hour sessions, $90
Using MaKey MaKey microcontrollers, Scratch and sound production software, program and create instruments and games that are controlled by touch. Invent a controller that requires you to collaborate with others. No prior experience required. To enroll go to:
