Statues of Mary Destroyed at Halethorpe Church

For Catholics, the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary is one of great devotion and special affection.  She is the Mother of God and the one to whom we pray for protection, wisdom, and much, much more.  So, when two statues and a plaque of Mary were found destroyed on the campus of Church of the Ascension in Halethorpe this morning, it was cause for great upset for the pastor and parishioners of the 100-year-old church.  Statues can be replaced, for sure, and the vandalism resulted in no bodily harm.  But the Catholic community in Halethorpe is a little uneasy today, something just about any Catholic can understand, especially after seeing the broken pieces that are all that is left of the images of our Blessed Mother.
