33rd Annual Charles Village Garden Walk

33rd Annual Charles Village Garden Walk

The 33rd Annual June 2, 2013 Charles Village Garden Walk included 37 stops - making it more of a marathon than a stroll; but it was worth the sweat in all the heat and humidity, especially as many gracious hosts offered cool iced water with lemon or lime.

This year's tour was south of 29th Street. The walk alternates each year between north and south village gardens. The 33rd included some old and some new ones, with fun descriptions on the handout of what awaited walkers behind the gates and garages in the gardens gotten to through multiple alleyways. Finding the right alleyway is an adventure, too. "Our garden is full of vibrant colors and tranquil sounds...with friendly goldfish." "A Plant Nerd's Paradise!" "Hornbeam trees and Helborous line the North wall." "After a neighbor's falling tree crushed the old mismatched fences, and our old sewer line required replacement, this former shade garden has been reborn as a sunlit bacyyard oasis."

A featured garden was one still under construction which was just getting started when last on the tour two years ago and while still incomplete it holds promise for a glorious future and a potential site for some very grand neighborhood event!
