Charm City Gardens By Bus

What a great day for the 4th Annual Charm City Farm and Garden Tour.

Not too sunny, hot or humid. No pouring down rain. Air about 70 degrees.

This year’s bus tour began and ended at Cylburn Arboretum and included stops in Cherry Hill, Curtis Bay, Franklin Square, Reservoir Hill and Hampden.

My favorite was Filbert Street Community Garden which sits behind a beautiful old water tower above Curtis Avenue.

Then I would have to say Sunflower Village in West Baltimore wowed me with those fabulous murals.

Whitelock Community Farm has been growing, expanding and drawing neighbors in to get fresh produce there. Roosevelt Park City Farm at 35th & Poole was the last stop. If you drive a bus, please avoid those narrow side streets. We cheered and clapped for ours as she got through Ash Street miraculously without sideswiping any vehicles.

This year the riders included a group of refugees from Bhuton who only spoke Nepali, but they had a translator as well as a representative of International Rescue Committee helping them adjust to their new home here in Baltimore.

The event also includes a separate cycling tour, a garden awards ceremony and an indoor picnic with live music and a garden slideshow.
