Baltimore 10-Miler Expanding

Good turnout at this year's Baltimore 10-Miler. Race officials looking to expand field for 2012.

The fourth annual Baltimore 10-Miler was run yesterday with 5,300 runners.  The start line was right in front of the Maryland Zoo and the course wound its way through North Baltimore.

While the race did not have many of the bells and whistles of other races (no food or coffee to be purchased for the spectators), but made up for it with atmosphere and accessibility.

The crowd was relatively small which allowed for everyone to have a good view and nice seats.  How many other decent sized races can you get a panoramic photo like I have attached here?

The top male finisher was Ryan Lee with a 10 mile time of 56:04.  The top female finisher was Megan Digregorio with a time of 1:05:15.

Finally, the after party was what made this race quite special.  There was watermelon and beer for all of the participants (and some for those who were cheering them on) and a band that played some pop favorites as well as oldie tunes.

Race officials said they would be looking for about 10,000 participants next year.  We're all looking forward to seeing a potentially major race in our backyards!
