Abdullah Pleads Guilty to Murdering Remington Woman

Syron Abdullah, 19, was sentenced to life in prison with all but 50 years suspended.

Syron Abdullah plead guilty Tuesday to the murder and robbery of a Remington woman, and was sentenced to life in prison with all but 50 years suspended.

In March of 2011, Abdullah 32 times in her head, arms and torso in her home in the 2600 block of Huntingdon Avenue.

According to a news release from the State’s Attorney’s office, Abdullah, 21, had been using a social media site to meet women by sending private messages that read "how u doin?" He would then attempt get their personal information, such as address and phone number, so he could rob them.

Blackwell, 19, knew Abdullah through school and responded. He then used the site to meet her and steal a Wii and Xbox video game systems.   

After discovering Blackwell’s body, police found Abdullah’s wristwatch in the victim’s bedroom, and later found traces of her blood on his sneakers, according to the news release.

He eventually admitted to being with Blackwell the day of the murder and stabbing her five times after she confronted him about the missing property.

“This case highlights the danger of sharing personal information on social networking websites. Unfortunately there are those who such sites to perpetrate crime,” State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein said in a news release.
