Baltimore Area Under Tornado Watch Tuesday

The National Weather Service issued the watch, which expires at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has placed much of Maryland, including Baltimore, under a tornado watch.

The watch lasts until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Baltimore is also under a Coastal Flood Advisory until 6 p.m. That alert changes to a Coast Flood Warning from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 2 a.m. on Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Areas under the tornado watch include Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery and Prince George's counties, as well as Baltimore City.

Baltimore Gas and Electric Company announced early Tuesday morning that heavy winds and rains could disrupt electrical service.

Baltimore area BGE customers may report downed power lines by calling 800-685-0123 or power outages by calling 1-877-778-2222.

BGE officials asked those who are elderly, handicapped or dependent on electricity for medical equipment to make arrangements in case of an extended power outage.

All residents are also urged to keep the following items on hand:

  • Flashlights—not candles
  • Fresh batteries
  • Battery operated clock radio
  • Corded telephone
  • Fully charged cell phone
  • Non-perishable foods
  • Blankets

Electrical generators should be kept in well-ventilated areas, vehicle fuel tanks should be filled and those who rely on well water may want to keep a bath tub filled with water, according to BGE.
