Baltimore City Council Candidate Attacked on Campaign Trail

Odette Ramos, a Democrat running for council in District 12, was reportedly shot with a pellet gun while campaigning.

UPDATE (11:32 a.m.) — As a candidate for elected office, you have to be ready for the occasional hostile reception.

But Baltimore City Council candidate Odette Ramos got a little more than she was bargaining for last week.

Ramos was campaigning in the 2500 block of St. Paul Street the morning of Aug. 17 when she was shot multiple times with a pellet gun, according to a police report.

Wednesday morning Ramos laughed at the incident and said that she thought it being filed as an aggravated assault was a bit strong.

Ramos said she was shot three times by green plastic projectiles but didn’t decide to call the police until the pellets damaged a taxi’s windshield.

She said that she didn’t want this incident to become a defining moment in the campaign, but said the incident highlights the need to provide activities for the city’s kids.

“I think it was a kid that had nothing better to do on a Wednesday morning,” Ramos said.

Det. Kevin Brown, a Baltimore police spokesman, said there had been no arrests made stemming from the incident.
