A toddler was being treated for serious injuries after the family dog attacked him in Essex, the Baltimore County Police Department reported.
First responders were called to a home in the unit block of Barnacle Court in Essex at 4:26 p.m. on Tuesday for a dog bite, police said.
Officers found a 2-year-old with serious injuries to his upper body, according to the report.
The child was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital with serious injuries that were not believed to be life threatening, police said.
According to initial investigation, police said the 3-year-old dog, a pit bull named Midnight, attacked the boy inside the home and while trying to get the dog off the child, family members killed the dog.
The family, which raised the dog from puppyhood, said there had not been any previous issues, according to police.
