County Police: Cause of Towson Doctor's Death Undetermined

The Baltimore Sun reports that Nikita Levy, a Johns Hopkins gynecologist who was being investigated for allegedly using recording devices on his patients, committed suicide.

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that an embattled Towson doctor who faced allegations of recording his patients committed suicide, but Baltimore County police are declining to confirm what the newspaper has reported.

Nikita Levy, a Johns Hopkins gynecologist, was discovered dead at his Hampton Lane home Monday morning, according to The Sun. Levy was being investigated for using recording devices, including a camera hidden in a pen to take clandestine pictures of his patients.

The Sun article lists suicide as the cause of death, and alleges that Levy wrapped a plastic bag around his head and filled it with helium. The Towson doctor also reportedly left an apology note for his wife.

Baltimore County Police Department spokeswoman Elise Armacost said in a Thursday statement that as of 11:15 a.m., the results of an autopsy conducted by the Office of the Medical Examiner were still pending and there has been no confirmation on the manner and cause of death. She continued that county police plan to withold the report on Levy's death due to an ongoing Baltimore City Police investigation.
