'Huffington Post': Maryland Tenth Most Violent State

Rankings are determined by the U.S. Peace Index, developed by the Institute for Economics and Peace.

The Huffington Post is reporting that Maryland is the tenth most violent state in the country.

The article is based on the Institute for Economics and Peace's  U.S. Peace Index.

The rankings took into account such factors as murders per 100,000 people, police officers per 100,000 people and small firearms availability.

The rankings do include several surprises. According to the index, Nevada, Tennessee and Louisiana are the three most violent states in the union.
