Man Allegedly Brings Handgun to Hampden School

He was reportedly at the school for a conference with his child's teachers.

The father of a student at the Academy for College and Career Exploration in Hampden was arrested and charged with bringing a handgun into the school on Wednesday.

Rodney Parker, 39, was allegedly spotted dropping a handgun, picking it up and entering the school at about 10 a.m. on Wednesday, said Det. Vernon Davis, a police spokesman.

The resident who reportedly observed the actions told an officer, who responded to the school and put it on lock down, police said. The officer and a school resource officer searched for a man matching Parker’s description.
