Man Fatally Shot Near 33rd Street Y Identified

Robert James was convicted of attempted first-degree murder in May 2002.

The man who was fatally shot in Waverly on Tuesday afternoon has been identified as Robert James, Baltimore City police said.

James, 30, whose last known address was in the 3400 block of Ravenwood Ave., was on probation, said Det. Donny Moses, a city police spokesman.

Electronic court records show that James was convicted of attempted first-degree murder in May, 2002.

James was shot in the head while riding in a black 2003 Lexus at the intersection of 34th Street and Ellerslie Avenue across from the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Family Center Y at Stadium Place, police said.

He was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital in critical condition and died Wednesday morning.

Baltimore City police did not identify the victim until next of kin were notified.

This murder comes on the heels of another fatal shooting just blocks away in the 4200 block of Old York Road. On Sept. 8, Marcus Hopkins was also gunned down.

Hopkins, 21, also had a criminal record and his last known address was just blocks from James' last known address in east Baltimore near Clifton Park.
