North Baltimore Crime: Man Avoids Hammer Swinging Assailant

Guilford Avenue, 2500 block, 3:53 a.m., Sept. 18.  A man was walking along the street when a would-be assailant began swinging a hammer at him. The man then spotted a police officer and reported the alleged incident. The person accused of swinging the hammer was found and arrested. The hammer was recovered, police said.

Old York Road, 4000 block, 12:10 a.m., Sept. 18. One man approached another man and asked if he could use his phone. The phone's owner said no and the other man pulled out a black handgun and told him to “Kick it out.” He then grabbed the man’s cell phone and made him empty his pockets before running away, police said.

York Road, 5200 block, 9:57 p.m., Sept. 19. Two robbers approached the owner of 1st Express Food Store as he was leaving and demanded all his money. One robber then allegedly hit the owner in the head with his fist. The owner fled the area and called police. The store's owner declined medical treatment.

Waverly

Chestnut Hill Avenue, 500 block, 11:03 p.m., Sept. 19. One robber approached a man, displayed a knife and demanded his property. The man and the robber started struggling when a second robber struck the victim in the head with a bat. The robbers allegedly took a cell phone and $5 from the man’s pockets and ran away. The man refused medical treatment.

East 33rd Street, 500 block, 3:15 p.m., Sept. 21. Robbers allegedly approached a man and asked if they could use his iPhone, then snatched it and ran.

East 33rd Street, 400 block, 9:33 a.m., Sept. 22. A juvenile ran past a woman and allegedly grabbed her white iPhone from her hip and kept running. The juvenile was later identified and arrested, police said.

Homeland

York Road, 5500 block, 1:51 p.m., Sept. 20.  Robbers approached a man and said, “Give it up pop.” The victim told the robbers he didn’t have anything. The robbers then forced him to the 500 block of Harwood where they allegedly took $125.

Abell

Greenmount Avenue, 8:26 p.m., Sept. 21. A woman was in Melba’s Bar when she was approached by a person with whom she has been involved in an ongoing argument. The person then allegedly hit the woman in the forehead and nose with a crystal glass and ran away. The woman received cuts to the forehead and nose but declined medical attention, police said.

Chinquapin Park-Belvedere

Dartmouth Road, 800 block, 7:45 p.m., Sept. 23.  The driver finished making a delivery for Papa John’s Pizza when a robber approached him. The robber allegedly pointed a black handgun and demanded all of his money. The driver handed over $40 and the robber ran away, police said.
