Northern District Commander Confident of Second Arrest in Shootings

Maj. Sabrina Tapp-Harper said police are treating the shooting of two security guards as if two police officers had been shot.

Maj. Sabrina Tapp-Harper, commander of the Northern District, said she expects a second arrest in the shooting of two security guards late last week.

 “I’m optimistic we’ll have a second arrest shortly,” Tapp-Harper told members of the Northern District Community Council Wednesday night.

Two armed security guards, who work for Assured Protection Security Agency, were patrolling the Oak Hill townhouse development in the 2800 block of Mathews Street were shot during a struggle on July 14, according to police.

A 32-year-old female security guard was shot in the eye, but has since been released from the hospital. A 38-year-old male security gurad, who was shot in the chest and leg, is still at Johns Hopkins Hospital in serious condition.

Tapp-Harper said police were treating the shootings of the guards as if it had been police officers wounded.

On Tuesday police arrested and charged 16-year-old Keymo Tubias Martin Jr. with attempted first-degree murder for the shooting of two security guards in the Oak Hill townhomes last Thursday.  

Police are currently seeking a second suspect described as a black male, in his early 20s, light skinned and with a short hair cut. Police described the suspect as “armed and dangerous.”

According to police reports, one of the suspects stole the handgun of a female security guard after she was shot in the eye.

Following an event touting the city’s YouthWorks program at a Hampden school on Tuesday, Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake said that she is frustrated with the city’s culture of gun violence.

“We have to change the culture of gun violence and the acceptance by some in our community that illegal guns are OK. So it’s disappointing, but we’re working to do better,” Ralwings-Blake said.
