Northern District Serious Crimes Down 9%

The Baltimore City police are reporting fewer crimes in such areas as burglary and larceny from auto.

 

The most serious crimes, as categorized by the Baltimore City Police Department, are down in the Northern District by 9 percent, compared to the same time period last year.

But Part I crime statistics also show a 30 percent increase in the number of shootings from the same time period, and a 22 percent increase in commercial robberies in the district.

The lastest available statistics for the district were tallied on Dec. 24.

According to police statistics, the , despite a in the Guilford neighborhood earlier this year, has experienced a 7 percent decrease in burglaries for the entire district.

The district is also reporting a 14 percent reduction in larceny from auto, which historically has been a problem for neighborhoods such as Charles Village.

The number of homicides is on pace to remain about the same as the year before.

According to the statistics, there were 14 reported homicides in the district so far this year, compared to 15 the same time last year. Forcible rapes are also on pace to remain about the same as last year, with 27 reported so far this year and 28 reported at the same time in 2010.
