Officer Thrown Off JFX Still Critical but Stable

The Baltimore Police Department held a press conference about the officer injured in an accident on Interstate 83.

Teresa Rigby, the Baltimore City police officer injured in an accident on Interstate 83 Tuesday, is in critical but stable condition, according to a police spokesman.

During a press conference Wednesday streamed over the Internet, spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Rigby underwent surgery Tuesday to repair her injured leg and had rods inserted in it. He also said that her pelvis was fractured and that she will also have to undergo some facial reconstructive surgery.

The investigation of the crash is still ongoing. Guglielmi also said police are still determining if charges will be filed against the driver that slammed into Rigby’s patrol car and knocked her over the Jersey wall and down 25 feet to a parking lot below.

The Tuesday morning incident occurred on the shoulder of northbound I-83 near the 41st Street bridge and the Pepsi sign. Rigby pulled her vehicle behind a disabled car and was standing on its passenger side, against the Jersey barrier, when another car slammed into her patrol vehicle.

The patrol vehicle was forced into the disabled car and the impact propelled Rigby over the side of the highway.
