Scenes from the Memorial Day ceremony and parade, as well as the final day of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company carnival.

It was a lively afternoon in Odenton Sunday, as hundreds gathered along Annapolis Road for the annual Memorial Day parade, which coincided with the final day of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company carnival.

The events to honor fallen service members began at 3 p.m. at the Odenton Masonic Lodge, where the VFW 5172 Meade Memorial Post held a wreath-laying ceremony. Boy Scouts from Troop 755 in Gambrills served as the emcees and color guard for the event.

Guests of honor included Carlo DePorto, a veteran of World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars.

At 4 p.m., the carnival opened and was soon filled with families looking for one last evening of fun on the rides. And at 5 p.m., the parade started along Annapolis Road, finishing off at the fire house.

Parade participants included fire engines from companies near and far, politicians including Sen. Jim Rosapepe (D-21) and groups including the Arundel High School band and Sailorettes.
