UPDATE (6:30 p.m)— A Medfield man was killed Tuesday in a police involved shooting on Weldon Place.
Around 4:30 p.m. were called to a residence in the 1400 block of Weldon Place North in Medfield in response to a family disturbance call, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said.
A Medfield man was shot and killed by police at the scene. A knife was found in the area when officers arrived, Guglielmi said.
He said the officer responded to the call and became involved in a struggle with the male resident, and the officer issued a call for assistance on his radio.
"At that time additional backup units arrived. Another officer entered the house, found the suspect and the officer struggling on the ground, there was what we believe was a knife like object in the vicinity," Guglielmi said.
The officer involved in the struggle asked for assistance and the officer who had entered the house fired at least one shot into the suspect and killed him.
Trishia Damico, who lives on nearby 42nd Street, said her son heard the shot and ran into the house because he thought they were fireworks and was scared.
Damico said the shooting was highly unusual for the neighborhood that she has lived in for most of her life.
“There’s always little things that may happen, you know my bike getting stolen here or there or something, but I’ve never known of anything to happen like this right around here,” Damico said.
Another woman named Cindy, who refused to give her last name, also said this kind of violence is nearly unheard of in the neighborhood.
“It’s very odd. It’s a safe place,” she said. “That’s why I live here.”
