Tavern's Former Owner Calls Fire 'Sad'

Ted Bauer, who now owns the Oregon Grille in Cockeysville, talked about the blaze that destroyed the Mt. Washington restaurant Monday morning.

Ted Bauer, who founded the in 1979, talked about the effects of the fire that destroyed the restaurant early Monday morning.

“It’s a sad day. It was a great spot and it was well loved in the community,” Bauer said.

Bauer, who sold the restaurant in 2007, said he was sad to see what had happened to the tavern that he put so much work into.

"Well, certainly I'm upset. A lot of blood, sweat and tears went into that restaurant. A relic such as that.... it’s an institution," he said.

Like Rob Frisch, the tavern’s current owner, Bauer expressed concern for the restaurant’s employees.

"You've had a lot of people put a lot of work into the restaurant over all these years. It's sad to see what happened," Bauer said.

Bauer has deep roots in North Baltimore beyond the tavern. Bauer, who was elected to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame in 1991, went to high school at Gilman.

He now owns the in Cockeysville.
