Teen Pleads Guilty to Yau Bros. Murder

Markell Jones, 18, shot and killed Freddie Jones Jr. in the Greenmount Avenue carryout.

Markell Jones pleaded guilty Monday to shooting and killing a man in a carryout on Greenmount Avenue on Halloween night 2011.

Markell Jones, 18, faces a maximum of life in prison with all but 50 years suspended and five years probation, and is set to be sentenced July 2, according to a press release the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s office.

"Our willingness to go to trial, and our preparation for it, produced a just result: a first-degree murder conviction. As this case demonstrates once again, my top priority is to aggressively prosecute those who use guns to hurt and kill our citizens," Baltimore City State’s Attorney Gregg L. Bernstein said in the release.
