The Shooting That Wasn't

Police reported a woman was shot in the foot last week but that didn't turn out to be the case.

Baltimore City police responded to reports of shots being fired at about 3:30 p.m. in the 3700 block of Hickory Avenue on Thursday.

When police arrived they found a 68-year-old woman after a bullet had been fired through her front door.

Initially police believed the woman was shot in the foot and reported that detail to Patch.

But in the Northern District’s part one crime report, the incident was listed as an aggravated assault.

Det. Jeremy Silbert, a police spokesman, said the report of the woman being shot was given because officers at the scene believed the woman’s wound were from a bullet.

It wasn’t until she was taken to an area hospital that it was discovered she was injured by debris from the bullet piercing the house.

Silbert said detectives are still investigating and looking for leads regarding a white van that drove up and fired a handgun through the front door.
