Anne Arundel Exec Leopold Indicted

John Leopold allegedly used police officers assigned to his executive protection staff to drive him to have sex in a parking lot.

He is accused of using his executive protection staff to take him to a parking lot to engage in sex with a county employee as well as using police to destroy an opponent's campaign signs.

His opponent in the 2010 General Election, Joanna Conti, told Patch the indictment restores her faith in the Democratic process. 

"If these allegations are true, he is not fit to hold office and should resign immediately," she said.

Anne Arundel County voters re-elected Leopold with more than 50 percent of the vote in 2010. He was elected to a first term in 2006 with 51 percent of the vote.

According to Leopold's official biography, the two-term executive was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1943 and was a long time resident of Hawaii. He served in that state's House of Representatives and State Senate between 1970 and 1978. Leopold also served in District 31 in the Maryland House of Delegates.
