Baltimore City Council Live Blog: Electric Car Filling Stations Proposed

(UPDATE 6:02 p.m.) — Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke suggests the city should consider allowing "plug-in stations" on public spaces for owners of electric cars to charge their vehicles.

She said she would like to see a station placed at the Department of Public Works yard at Sisson Street.

The council is just plowing through bills on final read. Most of the bills have to do with the appropriation of federal funds. 

The City Council approves a resolution requesting an informational hearing with the heads of the Department of Public Works and Cleaner Greener Baltimore to meet and discuss efforts to reduce trash and debris in the Inner Harbor.

Save Highlandtown Catholic School

A resolution requesting the Archdiocese of Baltimore to reconsider moving the Archbishop Borders Elementary School in Highlandtown has been approved.

Councilman Nicholas D'Adamo, D-District 2, and Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, D-District 14, sponsored the request.

"It's like taking the heart out of the community," D'Adamo said.

Tax the Tow Trucks

Councilman Robert Curran, D-District 3, has sponsored a bill that would create a surcharge for tow companies when they perform a "trespass tow."

A trespass tow is when a vehicle is towed from private property.

Do It Now Day

The council approves a resolution to make Nov. 2 "Do It Now Day" in Baltimore to honor former governor, mayor and comptroller William Donald Schaefer.

Councilwoman Rikki "Rochelle" Spector added an amendment that the day will never be a furlough day for city employees. The city imposed a furlough day on city employees last week to allow workers to visit Schaefer's casket in the City Hall rotunda.

Bills on first reader are being submitted. One of those bills is sponsored by Mary Pat Clarke, D-District 14, and would create an exception to the city's living wage law.
