UPDATE (5:42 p.m.)—Baltimore City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young is sponsoring a bill to investigate implementing a policy of preferential hiring for city residents for city government jobs.

Young cites the city's high unemployment rate as a reason to consider giving city residents preference for government positions.

Councilman William Cole introduces legislation that would create a single bureau under the control of the Department of Parks and Recreation to mow all city-owned lots.

Audit of Parks and Recreation

Councilman Carl Stokes introduced legislation requiring an independent audit of the Department of Parks and Recreation.

The resolution is intended to provide "policymakers with an accurate and complete picture of how that department is using the funds entrusted to it."

Marshall "Eddie" Conway Pardon

Councilwoman Belinda Conaway introduces a resolution to be sent to the Maryland General Assembly seeking a pardon for Marshall "Eddie" Conway.

Conway was convicted of the 1969 murder of two Baltimore police officers. The council passed the resolution.

William Donald Schaefer Way

Councilman Nicholas D'Adamo introduces legislation that would change the name of North Holliday Street to William Donald Schaefer Way.

D'Adamo said the suggestion of North Holliday Street isn't set in stone and would consider changing the name of other roads.

Pimlico Parking

Councilwoman Rochelle "Rikki" Spector sponsors bill that would amend the boundaries of the Residential Permit Parking Area surrounding Pimlico Race Track. The bill would remove some streets from the permit area. 

The legislation will be sent to Highways and Franchises Subcommittee.
