Baltimore City Declares Code Red Heat Days

Cooling shelters and free water will be available to residents starting Tuesday.

Baltimore City will begin offering free water and opening cooling shelters to help residents combat the heat over the next four days.

Baltimore City Health Department officials Monday declared a code red heat alert for Tuesday July 16 through Friday July 19.

“Heat-related hospitalizations and deaths are highly preventable,” Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Oxiris Barbot said in an emailed statement. “During hot summer days, it’s important to stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay in touch with your neighbors, especially seniors and the medically frail who live alone or without air conditioning.”
