City Urges Caution at Disabled Traffic Lights

About 90 percent of Baltimore City's traffic lights are functioning, according to the Department of Public Works.

(UPDATED 3:39 p.m.) — Baltimore officials are urging motorists to use caution when driving through the city Monday morning.

Although 90 percent of traffic lights are functioning, there are still some out in Baltimore, according to an email from the Department of Public Works. 

Some emergency generators have been set up, and Special Traffic Enforcement Officers have been deployed at some intersections without lights.

Motorists are reminded to approach intersections without functioning traffic lights slowly and yield to other vehicles in the intersection.

BGE spokeswoman Linda Foy said in an email that the company is working to restore power outages that are impacting traffic lights.

"Traffic lights are also a priority for us and are being worked as part of our overall strategy to address public safety and critical infrastructure issues first. We are still in the process of addressing these issues which include traffic lights," Foy wrote.

As of Monday afternoon, traffic lights at the intersections of Falls Road and Smith and Kelly avenues as well as lights at 28th and Sisson streets were still out of operation,
