Dwyer Admits Drinking Before Boat Crash

Del. Don Dwyer, of Glen Burnie, told reporters no one should be drinking while operating a boat or any other motor vehicle.

Del. Don Dwyer admitted to drinking before a boat crash on Wednesday in Anne Arundel County.

Dwyer, sitting in a wheelchair, wearing a neck brace and a cast on his left foot, made the announcement during a brief press conference on Thursday outside of University of Maryland Hospital in downtown Baltimore, and refused to answer questions from reporters.

"It is true that I was drinking while I was operating my boat yesterday. It's also been reported that my blood alcohol content was .2. No one, no one should be drinking and operating a motor vehicle or power boat," Dwyer said.  "I deeply regret my actions and ask for forgiveness from the public."

He would not answer questions from reporters but appeared to confirm his blood alcohol content was above the legal .08 level.

"The information is on the record. So I'm sure you'll find that's what it is," Dwyer said, declining to elaborate.

previously reported nine people were injured, including five children, in the accident, which occurred about 7 p.m. near Gibson Island in the Magothy River.

WBAL-TV reported that Dwyer was on a 26-foot Baja boat named "The Legislator."

You would never have these kinds of problems with pot, but for some reason the government has not been able to figure out a fool proof way to regulate it. It's not because of the perceived damage to life that they claim as the reason to keep it illegal... no brainer..
Steve August 29, 2012 at 03:57 pm
This is ridiculous. Charges aren't even pending even after Dwyer's own admission of guilt.

Buck, Steve said you were a tax cheat. Is he right?
Buzz Beeler August 29, 2012 at 04:56 pm
Joe, I would not believe one thing Steve says. If you want to know who Steve read his comments under the name Robert Armstrong or AdamBuam. That's who Steve is.
Joe August 29, 2012 at 05:01 pm
Thanks Buzz. I do notice he runs from questions.
Now who remembers Carl Snowden and what happened to him? Does he still work for Gansler after his drug bust?
Joe August 29, 2012 at 05:03 pm
"Carl O. Snowden, the civil rights chief for the Maryland attorney general's office who was arrested on a drug charge last week, was in a car with a convicted felon in Druid Hill Park when city police officers smelled marijuana, according to court documents released Monday.
Two officers said in a charging document that they pulled up in an unmarked car Thursday afternoon, approached a 2010 Honda Pilot with all four windows rolled down, and smelled "a strong odor" of marijuana coming from inside." Did he face the same as Dwyer is?
Steve August 29, 2012 at 05:06 pm
You really don't have a clue do you Dumbo? or should I call you amdactivist?
Joe August 29, 2012 at 05:07 pm
Oh that's right! Snowden is on "leave" form the AG office so he can sue Leopold and never have to work again.
Joe August 29, 2012 at 05:08 pm
And we never found out why Snowden was with a convicted sex offender smoking pot in a parking lot!
"Drugs were also found on his passenger, Anthony Hill, who is a registered sex offender. " Fox 45

Steve, I don't need clues, I know who your are. Even if I didn't have the information I do your style of writing and use of certain gives you away and like Joe said you have a tendency to run away - looking for another name maybe?
Steve August 29, 2012 at 09:13 pm
You're bullying tactics won't work Beeler. Save them for the little kids that egg your car.
Buzz Beeler August 29, 2012 at 09:42 pm
You call someone a tax cheat you had better back it up. Those you speak of with the eggs are long gone away on narcotics charges.

I've never cheated at anything Joe, no need to. I have asked the Patch pigeons ...Frank, FIFI, Steve....to provide us with the written law that gives the government legal authority to take private property from citizens without their permission dozens of times and to date no one can come up with the statute number. All legal laws must have this so it should be a relatively easy task to accomplish...especially for FIFI, the perceived CPA... He's no more a CPA than the man in the moon...
Patch Pigeons like these guys are weak and cowardice and Patch policy allows the no name shit slingers to commit liable on a fairly regular basis... perhaps Patch should be held accountable for creating this non productive playground for lawbreakers like them. Liable can be serious business, and Patch allows it ...something very wrong with that.. as for the PP poo boys...they struggle every day.
Buck Harmon August 29, 2012 at 11:15 pm
Patch allows liable to be committed on a regular basis Buzz...it's being documented for a future challenge that will expose the no names.. Kepp up the good work Patch Pigeon boys !
Joe August 29, 2012 at 11:26 pm
Didn't think so Buck. Draw em out.
Steve August 30, 2012 at 05:48 pm
They are still trying to spin this. Now he is saying the other boat hit him.

Dave August 30, 2012 at 05:54 pm
Steve,
I read the article and just can't believe it. Witness statements completely contradict the notion that Dwyer's boat was hit, rather than the one that did the hitting. And Buck, on an unrelated note, it's libel not liable.
Steve August 30, 2012 at 05:56 pm
Dave,
How about this statement from Parrott? "Don indicated that he had been drinking, however, at this point it is unclear whether he alcohol had anything to do with the accident," Parrott wrote.
Joe August 30, 2012 at 06:07 pm
I saw a picture of what I thought was Dwyers boat and it had damage on the left SIDE of the boat. If that was Dwyers then it sure looks like his boat was hit not the other way around.
Dave August 30, 2012 at 07:00 pm
This is a quote from the guy driving the other boat, who was not s**t faced drunk. “I knew from the moment that the boat veered into my path of travel that this person must be drunk,” he said. “I just don’t understand why Mr. Dwyer isn’t being charged. I had blood under my fingernails from where I was holding the wheel.” And here is a link to the full article:

Dave August 30, 2012 at 08:00 pm
Yeah Steve, pretty unbelievable what Parrott said. There's drinking and then apparently there's Don Dwyer style drinking. Definitely not in the same ball park.
Steve August 30, 2012 at 08:03 pm
Publicly trying to defend the indefensible doesn't strike me as being a good political move.
Parrott would have been better off saying nothing at all.
Joe August 30, 2012 at 08:08 pm
Steve, you must really take your own advice. "better off saying nothing at all."
Steve August 31, 2012 at 02:33 am
Now it all makes sense.

Sounds like a cover up. This guy was charged right away.

Whats the latest on this scum of society?
Obvious held to a different standard than those he represents..... With the powerboat show coming to Annapolis in two weeks, does this mean "Drunk Don" will be back on the water with a larger more powerful boat to speed him and his colleagues across the bay for their afternoon drinking binges?
number9dream October 2, 2012 at 09:13 pm
They're "continuing to investigate the incident."
Steve October 2, 2012 at 09:15 pm
It looks like they are putting about as much effort investigating this incident as they are trying to find Vi Ripken's kidnapper. Both departments are probably wishing both cases will eventually be forgotten.
