Activate Your Inner Citizen! Community Meeting

Take Action to Support Neighborhoods during this year's Legislative Session in Annapolis!Community Law Center (CLC) and Citizen's Planning and Housing Association (CPHA) are sponsoring a presentation on two invaluable pieces of legislation before the General Assembly this year.  Come to this meeting to learn about the legislation, and learn how you can actively support it.CLC will start off the conversation talking about Senate Bill 130/House Bill 365, which proposes to modify the Community Bill of Rights law from 1996.  The amendments will create a broader definition of community association so that neighborhoods will be able to take effective legal action against owners of nuisance properties that are injurious to the health, welfare or safety of neighboring residents. The second bill concerns the Maryland HOME Act, and amends that Act to make it illegal for landlords to discriminate against renters based on the source of their income.  This amendment will provide wider housing choices for vulnerable residents whose income is from government or private assistance, alimony, child support or sale of property. The meeting will end with an opportunity for attendees to quickly and easily sign letters in support of the legislation to their representatives, and will give information about further opportunities to offer support to this effort.  Please join us!
