Governor's Brother Named Mayor's Chief of Staff

Peter O'Malley previously served as former Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith's chief of staff.

Peter O’Malley, a Mount Washington resident and the brother of Gov. Martin O’Malley, will serve as Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s chief of staff starting Friday.

"Peter will help deliver results that benefit the people of Baltimore–that is why he is the best choice to be Chief of Staff in my Administration," Rawlings-Blake said in a press release. "Peter is an effective and proven manager with great integrity who has proven his ability as a public servant."

O’Malley has previously served as chief of staff to former Baltimore County Executive Jim Smith. He also held a grant-funded position that helped his brother, then-Mayor Martin O'Malley, establish Baltimore’s statistics driven accountability tool CitiStat. In addition, he started a small business, GovStat, that built CitiStat-like systems for other U.S. and international cities.
