Heat Warnings Spur First Code Red of 2011

Baltimore Health Department will open emergency cooling centers on Monday and Tuesday.

High temperatures forecast for Monday and Tuesday have prompted the Baltimore Health Department to declare the first "code red" heat alert of 2011 for both days—opening emergency cooling centers throughout the city.

Temperatures on Monday are expected to reach 94 degrees. On Tuesday, the National Weather Service has forecast a heat index of 102 degrees.

Each of the city's four emergency cooling centers will offer  cool air and free water, according to the city officials. The centers will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
