Live Blog: City Council Considers Legislation Adding Turnbull House to Landmark List

After a more than a month between meetings, the Baltimore City Council considered several pieces of legislation including adding the Grace Turnbull house to the city's Historic Landmark List.

The Urban Affairs and Aging Committee will consider the legislation adding the Guilford property to the list.

5:52 p.m. — Bill putting the charter amendment that lowers the age to serve on the Baltimore City Council to 18 years old to referendum is approved by the council.

5:39 p.m. — Councilman James Kraft is the lead sponsor on a resolution urging the city's delegation to the General Assembly to support same-sex marriage.

"The time for waiting on this issue is over," Kraft said.

The bill is assigned to the Judiciary and Legislative Investigations Committee.

5:33 p.m. — Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke introduces a resolution to create a hearing on an increase in funding for police involved litigation in the the fiscal year 2012 budget. 

Clarke said the budget has a $1.9 million increase for handling claims and lawsuits involving the police department.

She said the council should look at the nature of the claims and introduce training to help reduce lawsuits involving the police department.

The bill is assigned to the Judiciary and Legislative Investigations Committee.

5:28 p.m. — Citing the loss of jobs at the Pepsi plant in Hampden, Councilwoman Belinda Conaway introduces legislation to examine letting the city's "bottle tax" sunset sooner. 

The bill is assigned to the Taxation, Finance and Economic Development Committee.

5:25 p.m. — Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke introduces legislation that would require the Department of Transportation to replace city street light bulbs with LED bulbs. Clarke said it could save the city 40 percent of what its spending now to power the current bulbs.

"It all comes down to if the city can change a light bulb, and we think it can," Clarke said.

5:20 p.m. — The bill to add the Grace Turnbull House, in Guilford, to the Baltimore City Historic Landmark List is sent to the Urban Affairs and Aging Committee.
