Mayor Announces New Government Waste Watch Dog

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced a former FBI agent and congressional inspector will take over as inspector general.

A former FBI agent and congressional investigator has been appointed to lead Baltimore’s office of the Inspector General.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake announced Thursday that Robert H. Pearre Jr. was appointed to fill the position left vacant by David N. McClintock. The position is supposed to ferret out fraud, waste and abuse in city government.

"Increasing ethics and transparency has been a hallmark of this administration," Rawlings-Blake said in a news release. "I have every confidence that Mr. Pearre will use his talents to build upon the progress we have made building up the Inspector General’s Office and rooting out potential fraud, waste, and abuse."

Pearre is forensic accountant who has worked for as the chief investigator for the U.S. House Committee on Appropriations, an FBI case agent and graduated from Towson University in 1976 with a degree in business administration, according to the news release.

The mayor's office did not respond for calls for comment on this story.
