McCray Angles To Replace Del. Harrison

Cory McCray, who occasionally blogs about labor issues on Patch, wants to be appointed to replace longtime Del. Hattie Harrison, who died last week.

McCray, an Overlea resident, sent an email to possible supporters announcing that he had submitted his resume to the Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee to be considered to fill the open seat in the 45th District.

"I understand that this interview process to fill the vacancy in the Maryland General Assembly for the 45th Legislative District is an uphill battle and an inside game, but many of the accomplishments of the last decade have been against the odds. I believe that with my strong family, hard working community leaders, and diligent neighbors within the 45th Legislative District anything is possible," McCray wrote.

The central committee will conduct interviews and will make a recommendation to Gov. Martin O’Malley on whom to appoint to fill the vacant seat.

McCray was also honored earlier this month by Comptroller Peter Franchot with a "Golden Apple" for his work with schools in Northeast Baltimore. He is also the founder of the B.E.S.T. Democratic Club, which is aimed at giving younger Democrats a voice in party politics.
