Miss Shirley's Expansion Could Begin in 60 Days

The proposed expansion of the restaurant appeared on the Municipal and Zoning Appeals Board's consent docket on Tuesday.

The expansion of on West Cold Spring Lane is on track to begin in about 60 days.

The proposed expansion appeared on the Municipal and Zoning Appeals Board's consent docket on Tuesday. The board is expected to vote in favor of the expansion because zoning allows for the expansion and it’s supported by the Baltimore City Planning Department.

Eddie Dopkin, owner of Crazy Man Restaurant Group, which owns Miss Shirley’s and other restaurants, said he'd like to start the expansion in 60 days and expects it could be complete within “a couple of months” of starting.

Designs for the expansion, which would expand capacity by about 50 seats, now have to be finalized. The restaurant also has a liquor board hearing about extending the use of its license next door on Jan. 5, said Stanley Fine, Dopkin’s lawyer.

Dopkin said he doesn’t anticipate an issue with extending the liquor license next door because it isn’t an expansion of a bar, but just allows alcoholic drinks to be served in the extended part of the restaurant.

The expansion is primarily needed to expand the food preparation area and create additional restrooms in the restaurant, Dopkin said.

The restaurant will be expanding west along Cold Spring Lane into the building next door currently occupied by , which will be relocating to Meadow Mill.

Representatives from the surrounding Roland Park, Evergreen and Keswick communities attended Tuesday’s hearing to voice support for the expansion.

Councilwoman Mary Pat Clarke, who represents the area, also supported the expansion during the hearing Tuesday.

“We’re very happy to have this expansion. Although, my grandson may never be in a rock band after this,” Clarke joked during the hearing.
