Mount Washington Resident Honored for WWII Service

Harold Shapiro was awarded France's Legion of Honor Award for his service in Europe during World War II.

The Baltimore City Council passed a resolution on Monday night honoring Mount Washington resident Harold Shapiro’s service in Europe during World War II. Shapiro was awarded France’s Legion of Honor Award as part of the 67th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.

Shapiro served in the Rhineland Campaign as well as the Battle of the Bulge with the 26th Infantry Division. He was eventually wounded and sent to the United Kingdom to recover from his wounds. Shapiro was discharged from the Army in 1946.
