Obama Issues Disaster Funding For Baltimore Derecho Damage

Baltimore City is one of several jurisdictions approved for federal funds, the state announced Thursday.

President Barack Obama issued a federal disaster declaration for the , making Baltimore City and five other Maryland jurisdictions eligible for federal aid, state officials announced Thursday.

The declaration makes state and local governments and some nonprofits eligible for reimbursement of up to 75 percent of response and clean-up costs related to the storm, which knocked out power to thousands in the Baltimore area for as long as a week in some cases.

The declaration also sets aside state funds to mitigate the impact of future storms, according to a press release from the state.

Calvert, Charles, Kent, Montgomery and Saint Mary’s counties also received the disaster declaration. State officials said other jurisdictions could be added in the future, based on costs generated by the storm's impact.
