Sewage Overflows Into Stony Run

The Department of Public Works estimates 50 to 100 gallons a minute were flowing into the stream.

(UPDATE 8:45 a.m.)—The Department of Public Works reported an eight-inch pipe leaked sewage into the Stony Run, gushing 50 to 100 gallons per minute at one time.

The leak was reported at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the area of 39th Street, according to a news release. A spokesman for the department said the leak was stopped later that evening.

City workers were using a red dye to pinpoint where the leak was coming from, which made the stream "appear pink at certain locations."
