Sheriff to Tag Housing Authority Property

The items, such as trucks and computers, will be sold at auction to pay for lead paint judgments.

The Baltimore City Sheriff's Department will tag vehicles owned by the Housing Authority of Baltimore City as a step toward possibly seizing the vehicles to help pay for lead paint judgements against the city, according to The Daily Record.

Cheron Porter, a spokeswoman for the Housing Authority,  stressed that the vehicles are not being seized. During a telephone interview on Tuesday afternoon she compared the tagging of the vehciles to a foreclosure notice being posted on a home.

"The  tagging of HABC vehicles is part of an ongoing  legal process.  After the tagging, these vehicles will still be in possession of HABC and continue to be used to maintain and protect housing for our low-income families.  They are an important resource in ensuring that Baltimore’s low income housing remains viable," Porter wrote in an email to Patch.
