The Village Parents, a group dedicated to making Charles Village more family friendly, held a panel discussion on sending kids to city schools with parents from Mount Washington, Roland Park and Federal Hill.
The panelists discussed their experience with Baltimore City Public Schools and why they chose to keep their kids at those schools, as opposed to moving to the suburbs at the Village Learning Place on Wednesday.
"I think the biggest impact we can have on the schools is to get people to stay [in Baltimore]." said panelist Judy Chung O’Brien, a founder of Downtown Baltimore Family Alliance.
The panel included Victoria Brown, former president of the parent teacher organization at Federal Hill Preparatory School, David Conn and Salem Reiner, both parents, and Catherine Gearhart, parent of former Roland Park Elementary and Middle School students, who is also a teacher at the school, and Baltimore City’s 2004 Teacher of the Year.
