Mount Washington Elementary Named Blue Ribbon School

The U.S. Department of Education recognizes high performing schools with the award.

The U.S. Department of Education has named Mount Washington Elementary School a National Blue Ribbon School.

The department announced the award on Thursday.

“The Blue Ribbon Schools Program honors public and private elementary, middle, and high schools that are either high performing or have improved student achievement to high levels, especially among disadvantaged students,” according to the Education Department.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s office put out a press release praising the school and School CEO Dr. Andres Alonso for the achievement.

“As mayor, and as the parent of a student at Mount Washington, I am proud of the work done every day by the faculty and students. I want to congratulate Principal Sue Torr for her commitment to the students and for making Mount Washington Elementary a superb place for children to learn and grow,” Rawlings-Blake said in the release.
