O'Malley, Rawlings-Blake Announce School Board Appointments

From a news release announcing the appointments:

"Marnell Cooper is a graduate of the former Southwestern High School and the University of Baltimore.  Cooper received his law degree from the University of Maryland, School of Law, where he was the regional champion on the National Trial Team.  He is currently the managing partner of Palmer Cooper, LLC. and was recently re-elected to a second term as president of the Maryland Fuel Fund. Under his leadership, the Fund successfully met 70 percent of its strategic plan goals and objectives, including a 40 percent increase in the number of households served. In addition to his management responsibilities with the firm, he is also general counsel for a U.S.-based company that advises U.S. and European corporations seeking to do business in the Middle East and Africa.  Cooper volunteers in the Baltimore City schools where he advises students on public speaking techniques. He has served as a senior coach of the National Trial Team at University of Maryland, School of Law.

Robert W. Heck was first appointed in 2007 and is now re-appointed to his second full term. He has served on board committees responsible for school facilities and special education.  In his work as a communications consultant, Heck has done numerous public television series on education and created educational programs.  He possesses a high level of knowledge and expertise concerning education and is a parent of a student enrolled in the Baltimore City Public Schools.  

David J. Stone is re-appointed to his second full term.  Stone is currently the director of operations for Special Education at the Kennedy-Krieger Institute in Baltimore with over 20 years of experience in special education as both a teacher and as an administrator.  He possesses expertise, knowledge and experience in the education of children with disabilities, and is a parent of a student enrolled in the Baltimore City Public Schools."
