Several Key Players to Lead the Way for Bryn Mawr Lacrosse

Mawrtians must replace top scorer in school history along with entire defense

There are several examples of rivalries across the sporting world, and one doesn’t need to look too far in this country – or even in this region – to find a favorite match-up.

Among the top grudge matches in the National Football League is the Ravens against Pittsburgh.  In Major League Baseball, it is the Dodgers vs. the Giants – or the spending and on-field duel between the Yankees and the Red Sox.  In college anything, it is Army vs. Navy; in college hoops, it is Duke vs. UNC.  Many Baltimorians have vivid memories of the Thanksgiving Day football games played at Memorial Stadium between City-Poly and Loyola-Calvert Hall.

And in the North Baltimore world of girls high school lacrosse – both then and now – it is Bryn Mawr against Roland Park Country School.

Bryn Mawr has been on a roll the last few years when the neighboring schools have met on the lacrosse field.

However, if ever there was a time when the Mawrtians might be vulnerable, it could be on April 19 when they walk across the pedestrian bridges that span Northern Parkway and Roland Avenue to face their rivals in an away game on the Reds turf.

Last year’s 13-5 team graduated six seniors – including the entire starting defense – and Paige Hanson, the most prolific scorer in Bryn Mawr lacrosse history.

Yet head lacrosse coach Wendy Kridel does have several key players to lead the way this year.

Attacker Morgan Rubin is generally thought of as one of the top offensive players in the area.  According to Kridel, the senior is “incredibly quick and shifty,” and has an “unbelievable knack for finding a way to score.”

Other top players are midfielder Sam McGee, and Nancy Dunbar, a junior at the school.  McGee is a “very dynamic athlete who makes things happen,” Kridel wrote in an e-mail, while Dunbar is a “total workhorse who comes up with ground balls or a defensive stop when you need it the most.”

Kridel is also counting on Molly Wolf, who should “be one of the top goalies around.”
