Sahffi's Newest CD Meets 'Expectations'

Local singer-songwriter, Sahffi, recently released her CD called "Expectations".

Baltimore singer-songwriter Sahffi (Sahffi Lynne) recently released her newest CD called Expectations.  The digital-only album was released independently by Girl Moving Sound.  It is Sahffi's third CD.  Sahffi is a member of the Baltimore Songwriters Association.

Sahffi says that Expectations was a grand experiment, featuring 10 different producers on 10 different songs.  The result is a rich album full of different genres that range from pop to hip hop, acoustic rock to tech rock, which highlights Sahffi’s unique ability to shine in many different lights. Sahffi will have a CD release party for Expectations at:

Teavolve Cafe & Lounge
1401 Aliceanna St.

I interviewed Sahffi recently about her new CD and other expectations.

Tully:  Expectations has been released digital only.  Several other artists locally have released digital only music.  Do you think the days of ordering large quantities of physical CDs is coming to an end for local musicians?

Sahffi:  Not only is it more environmentally friendly, it's also a lot cheaper for indie artists to produce digital-only albums!  Even small run physical CDs can be a financial barrier when you're living and working as a musician.  Plus, download cards are easier to travel with on the road!  These days, most people have digital music on the go, but even if they need a CD for their car, they can burn one from their computer.  Win-win for everyone!

Tully:  Do the songs on Expectations have any special significance for you?

Sahffi:  I wrote the songs during a tough period in my life, contemplating the "expectations" I had for my life, what that means, where I was going from that point.

Tully:  What unfulfilled expectations have you had in your life in relation to your art?

Sahffi:  Honestly, I always knew life would be a struggle as a musician; until you win that audition, meet that right person, etc., life is a day-to-day type of life.  So I don't feel like I have "unfulfilled" expectations.  I just know the expectation I had to live and work as a musician has come true, which is a blessing.  The expectation to thrive as a musician is just not here quite yet.

Tully:  What keeps you motivated as a singer-songwriter?

Sahffi:  My daughter, my love of music, the healing power of music, the uniting power of music, and the honor I have to the gift I have been given to work in, sing, perform and write music.  It's a drive that never goes away, I truly feel like it is what I was born to do.
