The 138th running of the Preakness Stakes won't be until May 18, 2013, but the preparations for one of Baltimore's biggest events has already started.
On Friday the newest Preakness logo, designed by the Leffler Agency for the 14th consecutive year, was unveiled.
"The 2013 Preakness logo draws on the classic Pimlico logo horse type that is on the side of the clubhouse entrance. That horse combination was inspired by the nineteenth century painting of the "Great Race", an event which put Pimlico on the national sporting map," according to a news release announcing the new logo.
There has been no word yet if infield party mascot Kegasus will be back for a third straight year.
Tickets for the race have been on sale since Oct. 15.
