Friends Girls Top IND in Lacrosse, 19-12

Cooper scores nine times and adds an assist in high-scoring contest.

Junior midfielder Ella Cooper scored nine goals, including five in a row in the first half, to lead the Friends girls lacrosse team to a 19-12 win over visiting Institute of Notre Dame on Tuesday.

The win, which opened a lacrosse doubleheader at the school, boosts the Lady Quakers' record to 8-1 overall and 7-1 in the IAAM B conference. The boys team won the nightcap, topping John Carroll 9-6 to take sole possession of first place in the MIAA B conference.

Cooper’s five consecutive first-half goals helped the team to a 10-4 margin at the half. The Penguins were never able to significantly narrow the margin in second half of play, despite a three-goal run within 46 seconds mid-way through the session.

“Our girls went out hard and didn’t let things down,” Friends coach Mandy Hudson said after the game. “We wanted to play consistently; I think we fulfilled that goal.”

Hudson, who said in the pre-season she wants every player to be productive offensively, noted the team had six girls who scored goals.

“Our focus is making sure everyone gets on the board so that every team knows that everybody on our team can score—and be a threat,” Hudson said after the game.

Other Lady Quakers who scored include Emma Sissman with four goals and three assists, Lucy Klein with two goals and three assists, Rachel Bolan with two goals, Abby Corkum with one goal and an assist, Caroline Bogrov with a goal, and Sarah Wallack with an assist.
