Gilman's Jones to Join Crimson Tide

Gilman football star Cyrus Jones will take his talents to the University of Alabama.

UPDATE (11:40 a.m.)—The college football rich get richer.

Cyrus Jones, the Gilman School football star, announced during the Under Armour All-America Game on ESPN Thursday that he will be going to the University of Alabama.

'Bama adds one of the nation's top prospects to its recruiting class, which figures to bolster the team that won the 2010 BCS National Championship and will play for this year's championship against SEC rivals LSU on Monday.

Jones was rated as No. 36 best prospect in the class of 2012 and the fifth rated wide receiver in the country, by Scout.comRivals.com listed Jones as the No. 6 wide receiver in the class of 2012 and No.106 recruit overall.

Patch spoke with Jones just before he boarded an airplane to return from Florida where the high school all-star football game was held. He said that he felt great to finally make it known where he will be attending college next fall.

"I feel good. It's a big relief to let the whole world know where I'm going," Jones said.

Jones, who intercepted a tipped ball and returned it for a touchdown during Thursday's  game, said he's thrilled that he was able to display his talents against the best high school players in the country.

Now Jones said he is looking forward to watching and rooting for his future teammates when they play for a national title on Monday.

"I can't wait for the game. I'm pumped," Jones said.

While at , Jones has played on the , and excelled on the gridiron where he played offense, defense and special teams.

Earlier this season, Jones' speed and skills were on display when he returned a punt to win a crucial match-up against rival Calvert Hall.
