Gilman Wins MIAA A Conference Lacrosse Title, 13-8

Greyhounds defense shuts down top-seeded Calvert Hall in second half

For the second time in three years, Gilman has defeated Calvert Hall to win one of the most coveted titles in high school lacrosse – the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A conference lacrosse championship.

Gilman won the contest 13-8 in a game played at Towson University on Friday night.

The Greyhounds effectively smothered a lightning-quick Cardinal attack in the second half, holding Calvert Hall to just one goal.  Goalie Palmer Murray finished with 10 saves.

Meanwhile, senior Conon Doyle and junior Gordie Koerber teamed to score three goals, including the only fourth quarter scores, to lead the Gilman attack.  Koerber finished the game with four goals, Doyle with two scores and three assists.

Gilman jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but trailed 5-4 at the end of the first quarter.  The team rallied to take an 8-7 lead to the half.  They outscored Calvert Hall 5-1 in second half play.
