Orb to Arrive at Pimlico May 14

The Kentucky Derby winner will arrive several days ahead of the second race in the Triple Crown.

Call it a homecoming.

Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner, will arrive at Pimlico Race Course next Tuesday, May 14, for the Preakness Stakes the following weekend, the Maryland Jockey Club announced Monday.

Orb is owned by northern Baltimore County resident Stuart Janney.

Trainer Shug McGauhey confirmed the plans with jockey club President Tom Chuckas and race officials in a phone call on Sunday, according to the release. The horse is McGauhey's third to run in the Preakness, and first since 1989.

“I’m looking forward to getting this process going again and running in the Preakness,” McGaughey said in the release.

Possible competitors for Orb at the Preakness could include Kentucky Derby racers Mylute, Oxbow, Will Take Charge, Itsmyluckyday and Goldencents. Goldencents is trained by Doug O'Neill, who also trained I'll Have Another, winner of last year's Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes. O'Neill said in the release that Goldencents could arrive in Baltimore as soon as Tuesday.
