But it wasn't one of the football players who fumbled the ring into the water near the Chesapeake Bay—it was the boyfriend of a Ravens receptionist who lost it during an Aug. 3 boat party. And, it almost cost him his love life.
According to the Ravens website, Toni Lekas left Chuck Lykes responsible for the ring after the party. As Lykes was tying up a boat at the Middle River Yacht Club, the ring got snagged on the rope and fell into the water.
After searching the water himself, hiring a diver the next day, and coming up empty handed, Lykes had to tell his girlfriend.
Their relationship was on thin ice, until the National Football League accepted their request to make another ring, which Lekas had insured.
If you're thinking about going searching, in the event the ring is located, the finder is required by law to return it to Lekas and the insurance company, according to the website.
